You are my hope

My experience at the “You are my hope” work camp.

I had the opportunity to go to the “You Are My Hope” work camp for a week and I was pleasantly surprised. At first, I didn’t know what to expect, but when I arrived, all my worries disappeared, as I was warmly welcomed by the missionaries and my companions. Although I didn’t know anyone, I understood everyone perfectly, and they were all very nice. I really enjoyed meeting people from other places and countries. It was a very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere.

The convent itself conveys a sense of peace and well-being, and it’s surrounded by nature, which makes it even more beautiful. As for the work, I enjoyed it quite a bit, and I was surprised that it wasn’t as complicated as I imagined, because I hadn’t worked at anything before (although my job wasn’t difficult in itself; in this case, I painted and polished some windows and helped paint a large wall)

What was the environment like?

The work environment was also very good, and it was nice to see how hard everyone was working. There were also moments of laughter, and some colleagues played music to cheer us up while we worked. The best feeling is when you finish and see the great change that has taken place through our hard work. And in a way, a part of you stays in this place because you lived there (for a week) and helped improve it.

On the other hand, we also had moments to connect with God, and we met in a chapel to share teachings that the missionaries explained to us. We also did other activities that I really enjoyed: we visited other towns, went to the pool, one day we went stargazing, we played cards, and had water games.

Memories created

Everything was very enjoyable, and I loved visiting the nearby towns. I was able to really enjoy the landscapes and surroundings since I hadn’t visited/seen them before. We also had a great time playing cards, talking, and meeting people. I was able to completely disconnect from my daily routine/normal life. This experience opens your mind and helps you meet and talk to people you wouldn’t normally talk to or know.

Personally, for me, it was a very good experience, one that I really enjoyed and felt happy about. I’m taking away many beautiful memories and I´ve made some great friends that I didn’t have before. I’m looking forward to going back again.
