Music is a wonderful way to come closer to God!
Next year, the World Youth Day will take place in Lisbon. Its motto is “Mary got up and went with haste” (Lk 1, 39). The entire Portuguese Church is preparing for this moment with great joy.
Music is a wonderful way to come closer to God! As a family we belong to the diocese of Coimbra choir which faces the challenge of livening up the days leading up to the WYD. It was created by the Diocesan Organizing Committee, and is led by Fr. João Paulo Vaz, who composed the lyrics of the WYD’s official Hymn “Há pressa no ar” (Haste is in the air)
Music is of great importance in our lives! It is a wonderful way of relating to God! This is why we wanted to offer our musical talents, so that others can find the Lord.
The choir is made up of around 80 people. There are singers and musicians, mostly young people, but also some families. Our rehearsals take place in an atmosphere of faith, joy and sharing. We are aware that the sung Word can reach the hearts of young people.
In this time of preparation for World Youth Day, we are doing some shows in various cities of our diocese, as a way of uniting young people and encouraging them to participate in this unmissable historic moment. During one of them, the Bishop of Coimbra, The Most Reverend Virgílio Antunes, commented that the show “is already the miracle of World Youth Day 2023”.
