DEAR YOUNG PEOPLE, “YOU ARE PRICELESS! YOU ARE NOT UP FOR SALE!

Is there anyone who thinks that the youth of Korea are bought by society’s values, that they don’t have any strength or hope? Well, it’s not true! We were witnesses to the courage and desire they have, to fight for what they want, and the great hope they are for this world.

On 26th October 2019 the teenagers from the Mokchon Church presented a book they had written themselves about their own experiences. The place was full of adults who listened to the thoughts, challenges, dreams, and struggles that they shared, one by one. “Loneliness in their own family…”, “being bullied at school…”, “an “I love you” clumsily expressed by their parents with money…”, “stress that comes from a society where academic success has become the main goal of life…”, “the pain of mourning for a lost father…” Above all they shared their experiences freely and bravely from the heart and showed us their efforts to achieve a life that is worth living. One of them, Han Chunu (15 years old) expressed the challenges he faces and his search for true life in these words: “Someone may be successful and yet regret things, others may not be successful, but may feel that their life is worth while. I want to live a life that I will not regret”.

Jesus, I want to believe in the youth, to be near them in their searches and difficulties, to give them the trust they need to be themselves and to be able to offer the gift that they are to others. Because “young people are priceless, they are not up for sale, and because Christ is alive and He wants them to be alive too!” (Pope Francis, 『Christus Vivit 1 and 122)
