An Asian Mission Center

We have a dream that we would like to share with you: an Asian Mission Center.

This dream is based on the experience that our mission of evangelization is effective in transforming society and building a more just, humane, and fraternal world. We would like to build a mission center from which many young people and adults will emerge capable of committing themselves to justice, solidarity, and development in the Philippines, Korea, Japan, and throughout the world.

The community Servants of the Gospel arrived in the Philippines in 2015. We were welcomed by Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas D.D. in the Diocese of Lingayen-Dagupan in Pangasinan.

The need of the Project

During the eight years that we have been living in this region, we have dedicated ourselves primarily to the formation and accompaniment of adolescents and young people. With joy, this year 2024 we are carrying out the sixth Asian Youth Mission with more than 50 young people from the Philippines, South Korea and Japan.

We tell you that this rural area has a high rate of young population and very few development resources. The main challenges faced by the young population are: extreme poverty, low education and schooling, malnutrition, tropical diseases and, as a result, a lack of self-esteem and the ability to dream of creating a better future. Many of them are also very lonely because their parents work abroad.

They also have enormous potential and resilience to achieve great things. We want them to be the architects of their own future.

Geographical localization

God, through a benefactor family, has blessed us with the donation of a piece of land where we will be able to build a place to carry out our activities with more dignity and for the young people to have a place for rest, formation and recreation. The land is located in San Carlos City, Pangasinan.

The bishop of the diocese Mons. Sócrates B. Villegas D.D. and the parish priest of this area are immensely happy that we can now put down roots in this place and be a support for so many young people.

We are initiating all the necessary procedures for the construction of this great project, and we already have the Legal Personality and the design of the plans in its first version that has been made by Father Dario Marote, who is not only a priest but also an architect. At this moment we are looking for the local engineers who will carry out the construction.

Objectives

This Asian mission centre has three main objectives:

  • To welcome, accompany and empower young Filipinos, from South Korea, Japan and other countries, for volunteering and missions.
  • To have a large living space for the missionaries and to be able to carry out all their pastoral activities with young people and adults.
  • To train consecrated missionary vocations from Asia.

We dream of building the following spaces:

  • Multi-purpose hall with rooms, basketball court and recreational garden area.
  • The house of the local community of missionary sisters with a parking area.
  • The formation house for consecrated missionary vocations.
  • A large chapel

Conclusion
We are aware that the dream is big, but we can achieve it together, step by step.

In the Philippines, one word that defines the culture is ‘bayanihan’: to do a task together. In the old days, when a family went to live in a place, a large group of people carried their bamboo house on their backs to that place. That is ‘bayanihan’. We believe that together we can make our dream come true.
